Letter to the Trinity

Alpha and Omega had an arranged marriage but they gradually fell in love with each other. They had a child after a few years and named him Christian. Christian was the blue eyed boy for everyone. Since he was the one who made them parents, whatever Christian did became the benchmark for the ideal child. After a few years they had a girl and she was named Hindu. While both parents were really happy, their relatives mocked her as her behavior and interests were quite different from Christian. Hindu was very obedient and loved her parents very much but secretly wished that she was loved the way Christian was. After a few years, Muslim was born. Muslim was the rebellious child, whose ways provoked everyone. He was called the problem child as he always kept complaining and kept demanding for his rights. But being the youngest, his parents always granted his wishes which made him even more demanding. All 3 siblings often fought with each other over trivial matters and hence decided to stay separately. They would only visit during religious festivals such as Christmas, Diwali or Id. It was during such festivals that the whole family put aside their differences and celebrated whole heartedly. As years passed, Alpha and Omega grew older and became grandparents. Their old age was spent happily as the 3 siblings took good care of them. Alpha and Omega died peacefully at old age.
During their lifetime, Alpha and Omega had ensured that their children had got enough of whatever they required. They also had amassed a lot of wealth and property. This is when the real problem began. Each of the 3 children started fighting on who should inherit their parent’s property. Christian demanded that since he was the eldest and since his parents loved him the most, he should take charge of the entire property and would decide how much each one would get. Hindu suggested that the property should be divided equally among everyone. Muslim however insisted that he should get everything as he was financially unsettled.

It was then that a lawyer appeared and shared a letter with the 3 of them. He said, it was the will of their parents to do what was written in the letter as their last wish. The following is what was written:

Dear Christian, Hindu and Muslim,

If you are reading this, then we are no more in this world. Let us tell each one of you that both of us feel really blessed to have such a wonderful life with such great kids.

Christian: You were our first kid. You are the one who made us parents for the first time. You have always made us proud and we really feel blessed to have brought you into this world. In fact your father had gone through a lot of hardships during his life and he ensured that you never went through any of them. In fact, being our first son, we always had high expectations from you and we were never let down. It was a proud moment for us when most of our relatives considered you as the role model for their children and encouraged them to live the ‘Christian way’.

Hindu: We were really delighted the day you were born. In fact it was the first time your father had tears of happiness when he held you up for the first time. But you were always different. You liked doing things out of the box much to the amazement of all of us. We know our relatives were indifferent to you and we could have defended you better. We also know that you would have felt that we didn’t always support you when it mattered the most. We don’t have any excuses for the same and are really sorry that you felt that way. But let us tell you one thing. You were the apple of our eyes. We really loved you and are proud of you.

Muslim: You were the youngest and we must admit that we pampered you a lot. You were very talkative and it was you who made our family very lively and happening. You complained a lot, much to the amusement of your brother and sister but we know that you loved them a lot and wanted to be pampered by them as well. You are the brightest of the 3 and we have very high hopes from you. We know that you are financially struggling now and hence we have decided to leave our entire property and wealth in your hands. You are free to spend it, divide it or take care of it. But always remember that the biggest and the most precious possession we had were our 3 children and we pray that no power on earth ever divides them.

Your proud parents,
Alpha & Omega

Tears filled up the 3 children’s eyes when they read the letter. Muslim, immediately told Christian that since he was the eldest, he should take control of the property and distribute it among all. Christian, who was fuming with anger before, was sober now and turned towards Hindu. He said, “Hindu, since you are our only sister and the most unbiased one, I think you should take control of the property and decide what to do with it. Hindu was in tears as the letter brought back memories of her parents.

Seeing the reaction of the 3, the lawyer turned to them again and revealed that Alpha & Omega had written another letter just to him. The lawyer said, “Don’t know how to say this, but your parents had predicted that all of you would fight with each other once they were no more and hence had asked me to decide what to do, based on your reaction after reading the letter.

The lawyer did what he had to do and it was just as 'what was written'.
